Locks of Love snipped at Kristen’s Care

August 6, 2013

Kristen’s Care Preschool owner Kristen Mackey donated her hair to Locks of Love at her preschool Aug. 5. Mackie wanted to show her students how they can help others and it is not scary to get a hair cut. This is the fifth time Mackey has donated hair to Locks of Love.

Hairstylist Gretchen Ninzeheltzer from Paisley Moon in Milton came to the preschool, which her daughter attends, to make the cut for Locks of Love and also give discount haircuts to children who are reluctant to sit in a chair at the stylist's. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Shown is Ninzeheltzer with the hair donation from Mackey.
