Beebe cardiologist named chairman of art auction
Rosa, a board certified and fellowship-trained cardiologist, and chief of the Cardiology Department at Beebe Medical Center, has worked for more than 11 years in the community to help those who suffer from heart disease.
For years, Rosa has been among those who have supported the establishment of an open-heart surgery program at Beebe Medical Center where patients could have bypass heart surgery and valve repair and replacement surgery, to improve their health and their quality of life. He also has been involved in the efforts to implement an interventional cardiology program at Beebe Medical Center so that patients suffering life-threatening heart events could receive scheduled and emergency interventional cardiac treatment that would open blocked cardiac arteries.
Today, Beebe Medical Center has both these programs. The surgery program is in an affiliation with Christiana Care Health System in Newark. Since 2007, hundreds of patients have been successfully treated and have been able to stay in their own communities, near their families, through their cardiac procedures and recoveries.
Rosa advocates making the community aware of these life-saving programs at Beebe Medical Center and of educating young people about the importance of healthy lifestyles that may prevent heart disease from developing later in life. Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death and disability in the nation. Rosa also believes that community involvement is critical for the continued improvement process of the program.
Rosa, a native of the Dominican Republic, earned his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and completed his residency in internal medicine at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, at the time in affiliation with the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a fellowship in cardiology at the same hospital. He is a member of Cardiology Consultants in Lewes and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Proceeds from the 2009 Best of the Beach Art Auction will benefit Beebe Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Institute, supporting heart health in Sussex County. The funds raised at Best of the Beach also will benefit the programs of the Rehoboth Art League, which has worked with the Beebe Medical Foundation to organize the event since its inception.
Beebe Medical Foundation was established in 1989 with the sole mission to raise philanthropic support for Beebe Medical Center. The foundation is located at 902 Savannah Road, Lewes DE 19958.
