Therapeutic riding program holds open house
Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding held an open house Oct. 19 to bring awareness to the community about its therapeutic riding program. The open house was attended by many area residents as well as Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes; Rep. Steve Smyk, R-Milton; and Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach. Organizers appreciated their support. Jane Folz, president of the Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs, also attended and was delighted to meet riders and their families. Father John Barton of the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist also attended and blessed the horses.
Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding is a nonprofit 501c program that has served the community of people with special needs for the last 25 years. It is strictly a volunteer community with no paid employees. Members are looking in the near future to kick off a capital campaign to build their own facility to be better able to serve people with special needs. Volunteers and donations for the care of the horses are always needed, and scholarship money for those families who cannot afford lessons. To make a donation or volunteer, go to www.SDTRHR.com.
