Cape swims past Saint Mark's for pair of victories
The waters have been churned up and the Cape swim teams are in the frothy mix. Shaking off the droplets of being only "the best downstate team," Cape has become one of the state's best after defeating powerful Saint Mark's Feb. 4 at the Sussex Family YMCA.
The victory was in sight then put away wet with three events to go when a Delmarva Power crew got off the outside pole and came inside to evacuate the building. Saint Mark's, always a classy crew across all their sports, conceded they were unlikely to swim back against the alternating current of the Cape lead and headed back to Newark.
Cape will next swim at the Henlopen Conference championships this weekend.
"Things went our way early with some of the changes we made in the lineups," coach Bill Geppert said. "You know, so much depends on your frontline people battling their top swimmers, but with Saint Mark's you have to have depth, and you have to win relays. Beating Saint Mark's is a high accomplishment for ourprogram."
