For its third season in Rehoboth Beach, Shorebreak Lodge has unveiled a new look and menu.
Co-owner and chef Rob Stitt said customers asked for a more atmosphere at the 10 Wilmington Ave. restaurant. The new interior is brighter with a surfing theme, and the menu now emphasizes seafood.
“It’s something you would expect to see at the beach: brighter, blue colors,” Stitt said. “The seafood – being at the beach – it’s kind of a no-brainer.”
Stitt, who owns Shorebreak with business partner Matt Sprenkle, said the fish menu would rotate throughout the season.
“Our food is pretty simple and straightforward,” Stitt said.
Also new this year is the addition of Anna Short as the newest member of the restaurant’s management team. Short worked in the kitchen last year, but Stitt said this year, she would provide more organization. Short said she wants to improve Shorebreak’s table service and raise the restaurant's profile in the community.
“Our main focus is getting people in the door more than we have in the past,” Short said. She said Shorebreak Lodge is revamping the website and using online tools such as Open Table, Yelp and Trip Advisor.
“We’ve relied on word-of-mouth for a long time,” Short said. “We’re trying to step it up a little bit.”
Future changes could include adding lunch service, Stitt said. He said last year was very successful for Shorebreak Lodge; this year’s changes are a way to continue growing.
“We caught on pretty well last year,” he said. “It’s just following through on that and first and foremost making sure everyone that leaves here has a good experience. This is kind of a lost half-block in Rehoboth right now. We want them to want to come back.”
Shorebreak Lodge is open at 5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Hours will expand as the summer nears. For more information, call 302-227-1007 or go to shorebreaklodge.com.
