Running and walking for Jay Stein
Nearly 50 friends and family gathered to honor the passing of Stuart Kingston co-owner Jay Stein with a memorial walk and run on the Rehoboth Boardwalk June 20.
The longtime Rehoboth Beach businessman died in his sleep June 12 of heart disease at the age of 74.
A week of temperatures that had broken 90 degrees with high humidity gave way to a nearly perfect day – mid-70’s, low humidity and a nice northerly breeze – for making the 2-mile trek on the Boardwalk.
“Jay would have thought he had died and gone to Heaven,” said Dian from the white bench sitting in front of the store’s Boardwalk entrance where the crowd had gathered. “He was just so into health.”
Dian said she was just so appreciative of all the support she and Jay’s daughter, Mauria, had received since Jay’s death.
The walk and run was a simple way for the people who had gathered to remember one of Jay’s favorite activities – running the Boardwalk at noon during the summer.
“My dad would have loved this weather,” said Mauria. “But he also loved doing it in the deep heat of the summer. He would be like, “It’s noon. Lets go for a run.””
