Sam Yoder & Son donates $10,000 to Lewes Little League
Sam Yoder & Son, the largest truss manufacturer and supplier on the Delmarva Peninsula for more than 35 years, announced that it is donating $10,000 in materials and labor to Lewes Little League. The in-kind donation includes design work, labor, roof trusses and wall panels with free delivery for the construction of a new fieldhouse building at the little league fields at Lewes Canalfront Park in Lewes.
"We can’t thank the Hudson family and members of the Sam Yoder and Sons company enough for their generous donation to Lewes Little League and the children of our community," said Mike Ciabatoni, Lewes Little League president. “It is donations like this that allows us to continue our mission of providing a safe environment to teach the values of sportsmanship, confidence and teamwork that is Little League Baseball and Softball."
Years of hard use and winter storms shut the fieldhouse and snack shack building down. The current structure will be rebuilt from the ground up to better fit the needs of the organization and provide a safe environment for the little league families and visitors. The structure will stay within the footprint of the current building but renovations will fit the historic coastal architectural look in surrounding Lewes Canalfront Park. Enhancements to the building will include the addition of two handicap accessible bathrooms and proper materials that will provide support in the case of tidal flooding.
“I think a lot of people can donate money, but it's a pretty rare blessing to be able to donate building components. We are truly blessed to have that ability. As part of our commitment to supporting our community, we felt that we were uniquely qualified to help the Lewes Little League rebuild," said Christian Hudson of Sam Yoder & Son.
Lewes Little League provides baseball and softball to more than 320 local children ages 4-12. Field house construction will begin this fall and be open for Opening Day next spring.
