Troop 95 Boy Scouts complete Tour De Sussex bike hike
Garrett Hale, historian of Boy Scout Troop 95 in Georgetown, writes about a a bike hike which scouts completed recently to earn their cycling merit badges:
Eleven scouts from Troop 95 in Georgetown working on their Cycling Merit Badge had to complete a 50-mile bike hike as their final requirement. To earn the badge, the scouts participated in the first Tour De Sussex bike hike sponsored by Delaware Technical Community College Sept. 13.
Before the scouts started their 62-mile bike ride, they put on special orange T-shirts they received from the college. They broke into three groups, which they kept the entire trip. Scout volunteers also manned three rest stations throughout the bike hike.
Injuries prevented all the scouts from finishing, but most made it to the end. At the finish, representatives from Del Tech served food and drinks for all participants.
Gathered for the Tour De Sussex are, standing (l-r) Keith Hale, Garrett Hale, Tyller Jackson, Zach Hultberg, Zachary Ables, Quinn Baker, Daniel Swain, Jarod Rolfing, Morgan Hazel, Carson Watts, Michael Cotter, and Alex Holz. Kneeling are Zaccary Coffelt and Braeden Swain.
