Sussex Central to present 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile'

Production to be staged Oct. 23-25
October 19, 2014

The Take Two Drama Club of Sussex Central High School will present the first high school production in Sussex County of the contemporary comedy classic, "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," by famed comedian and filmmaker Steve Martin.

The story takes place at the Lapin Agile cafe - an actual artists' hangout in Paris - where, in 1904, an imaginary meeting between Pablo Picasso, Albert Einstein and several madcap characters, including Elvis Presley, takes place with unpredictable and hilarious results.

The show will be presented at 7 p.m., Thursday to Saturday, Oct. 23-25 at the Centre for Visual and Performing Arts at Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown.

General admission is $8 at the door; and a two-for-one ticket special is offered to all teachers for this show. Students, seniors and military pay $5. Middle school students with ID are also admitted on a special two-for-one ticket for $5. No one will be turned away for inability to pay. Purchase tickets at the door starting at 5:30 p.m.

“This is the first high school production of 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile' in Sussex County,” said director and Sussex Central drama instructor David Warick. “It is a funny, fast-paced look at the connection between art, science, love and fame.”

All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the nonprofit Take Two Drama Club to support the production of future shows. For school groups and group sales, call Warick at 302-934-3166. Concessions will be available during intermission.
