Gallery One to host reception for new show, Inspired by? Nov. 1

Exhibition continues Nov. 5 through Dec. 4
October 30, 2014

The Latin word “inspirare” means to breathe upon or to breathe into. Which muse breathed upon the artists at Gallery One as they created paintings for the November theme, Inspired by?

“Night Lights," a vibrant watercolor by Aubre Duncan, depicts the lantern of the Lightship Overfalls in a night sky lit by a bright orange moon.

Lesley McCaskill also was inspired by the Lightship Overfalls. Her watercolor is light and airy, as were the happy voices of the families she heard as they toured the historic ship on a bright fall day.

In Peggy Warfield’s collage, a white “Winter Moon” beams against a deep blue sky. Her inspiration is from a Haiku poem composed by an ancient Japanese poet. Both poem and art are simple and bold.

Touched by a beautiful vase of birthday flowers from one of her children, Tara Funk Grim was compelled to paint the bouquet. Her entry for this month’s theme wall is “Stargazers and Stripes."

The view from Laura Hickman’s hotel on a recent trip to Portugal is the subject of her pastel. She was inspired by the afternoon sun hitting the rooftops of the town of Sinata nestled high in the hills overlooking the Atlantic Coast. The oranges and lavenders and greens glow in the sunlight.

Sonia Hunt was moved by the beautiful shade trees and the light patterns on the pavement at a sidewalk café to create her watercolor, “In a Shady Place."

The natural beauty that is all around in this beautiful coastal area was the inspiration of several artists. Pat Riordan titles her acrylic “Why We Live Here." The painting captures the marsh, the seaside foliage, the water glowing at a certain time of day.

“Beach Grasses” is a delicate acrylic by Joyce Condry. “The first thing I see when I approach the beach is the dune grasses waving in the breeze… so graceful and relaxed…a signal that the ocean is just beyond.”

In pastel watercolors, Dianne Shearon paints the beach in her work, “My Beach Path." The beach changes hour by hour, day by day, season by season.

Children are always inspirational. Dale Sheldon shows two little ones watching the breaking waves on the rock jetty with delight, joy and curiosity.

The public is invited to a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, to meet Aubre Duncan, a new artist at the gallery.
