Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America, endorsed the efforts of June Jam Ltd. in its support of Code Purple at the chapter's monthly meeting Nov. 20.
Chapter 850 also contributed $300 to Code Purple sanctuaries, which open when the temperature drops to 32 degrees or below. The purpose is to prevent people from sleeping on freezing streets.
Chapter President Joe Startt Jr. asked members to contribute clothing and other items, including blankets, hats, coats, sleeping bags, towels, washcloths, hand wipes, food and toiletries to Code Purple sanctuaries in Kent County. About 20 percent of the homeless in Kent County are veterans.
Drop-off locations include Cowboy Up; Artsy Fartsy on Loockerman St., Dover; Green Stinger, Woodside; Tip Top, near Camden Walmart; and Dover Interfaith Mission, Forrest Street, Dover.
