The Bethany Boathouse groundbreaking ceremony held

December 20, 2014

Crowds gathered in support of the groundbreaking ceremony for The Bethany Boathouse Dec. 3. This is the latest venture for Cottage Café owners Brent Poffenberger and Tom Neville.

The ceremony began as Neville and Poffenberger expressed their excitement for this new project, followed by supporting remarks from Mike Cummins of Miken Builders; Sen. Gerald Hocker, R-Ocean View; Rep. Ron Gray, R-Selbyville; and Chamber Executive Director Kristie Maravalli. Those in attendance received limited-edition Bethany Boathouse T-shirts, and were invited back to The Cottage Café for a post-ceremony reception.

With plans to open in late spring 2015, The Bethany Boathouse will be located directly across the street from The Cottage Café, adjacent to the CVS. The building is being designed to closely resemble historic U.S. Lifesaving Stations. The Bethany Boathouse will be a seasonal restaurant catering to both locals and visitors. In addition to indoor and outdoor seating, there will be a fenced-in play area with a sand floor for children.

“With the surrounding 1,800 Sea Colony units and neighboring residents, there will be a strong focus on carry-out including a dedicated carry-out window for our guests. We are hoping that it will also be a great destination for patrons to walk or ride a bike to enjoy a fresh meal or refreshment, and of course there is parking available as well,” said Poffenberger.

“Our menu will have beach favorites such as crab cake sandwiches, fresh grilled fish sandwiches, shrimp salad, fresh fried oysters, fish tacos and many more items,” said Neville.
