Food Bank of Delaware ServSafe classes begin Feb. 23
The Food Bank of Delaware will begin offering ServSafe Food Manager Certification classes and exam opportunities to the general public in Kent and Sussex counties.
The first class will be held at the food bank’s Milford branch Monday, Feb. 23. Interested participants must sign up by Friday, Jan. 23. The first class will be offered in English, but Spanish classes will be offered later in the year.
The class is a one-day training in the principles of food safety presented by registered ServSafe instructors. Instruction will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. followed by the exam from 4 to 6 p.m. Individuals who complete the training and pass the exam will receive a ServSafe certificate. Those who already have the current ServSafe Manager text with answer sheet will take the exam starting at 4 p.m.
The course costs $150 and includes seven hours of food safety training, textbook, lunch and the exam. For $75, individuals with a current ServSafe Manager test with answer sheet can take just the exam.
The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification meets Delaware law’s requirements of demonstration of food safety knowledge. The nationally recognized certification includes training on personal hygiene, cross contamination, time and temperature, receiving and storage, and food safety management systems.
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s ServSafe Food Safety training program is respected and trusted by the restaurant industry to provide instruction in essential food safety practices.
“We are proud to offer ServSafe training to Delaware’s food service industry,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “The training is an extension of our Culinary School. In 2015, workforce development will be an important focus of our mission. We are focused on providing not only new training opportunities, but continuing training opportunities to the food industry.”
The Milford class schedule for 2015 includes classes in English starting Feb. 23, June 22 and Oct. 19. Classes in Spanish will begin April 20, Aug. 17 and Dec. 14.
