Two seats up for grabs on Cape Henlopen school board

Posner to run, Johnson to step down
February 10, 2015

Two seats are up for election on Cape Henlopen's school board.

Both are five-year terms, one is the at-large seat held by incumbent Roni Posner who said she is running for re-election. The other is the area B seat held by incumbent Sandi Johnson – formerly Minard – who said she is not running for reelection. Recently married, Johnson said she continues to live in area B but decided to not run for another term.

Area B consists mostly of Lewes and the greater Lewes area. Savannah Road is one boundary line that divides area B to the north and area C to the south. Area B's northern border stops at the Broadkill River, south of Route 16. Its eastern border stops west of Route 5 on Route 9, but from there the border continues south to Harmons Hill Road east of Route 5.

Posner said she decided to run because there is more work to do.

“It's an exciting time for Cape and I have more to contribute,” she said.

Anyone interested in filing for a seat must do so by 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Sussex County Department of Elections at 119 North Race St., Georgetown.

Candidates filing for the area B seat must live in area B. Those filing for the at-large seat may live anywhere within the Cape Henlopen School District.

Voters throughout the entire district vote for area B and at-large candidates regardless of where voters live.

The election will be held Tuesday, May 12.
