Ruth R. Rayne, former Blue Surf employee

Mrs. Ruth R. Rayne, 67, of Frankford, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, with her family by her side.

Mrs. Rayne was born in Williamsville Sept. 7, 1947, to the late Harrison and Sarah Holland Smith. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Rebecca Rayne in 2005.

She worked for the Blue Surf Motel for 35 years and then Wicomico County Public Works as a janitor for 35 years before retiring. She was a member of St. John’s AME Church in Bishopville, Md. and AARP. She loved to read, do puzzles and cook. She was very supportive of all her grandchildren’s activities and also gave good advice. Ruth was a lovely person, devoted to her husband and family. She was also a generous person, donating a kidney to her daughter and at the end of her life she was a Gift Of Life donor.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Daniel Rayne of Frankford; six children, Charles Rayne (Maureen) of Atlanta, Ga., Martina Rayne of Frankford, Valarie White of Georgetown, Francina Chisum of Frederica, Darnell Briddell of Newark and Cornelius Briddell of Dagsboro; four brothers, Russell Smith ( Lynn) of Williamstown, N.J., Randall Smith (Ellen) of New Castle, Raymond Smith (Diane) of Fruitland, Md. and Roberta Cropper of Williamstown, along with six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 13325 Worcester Hwy., Bishopville, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Zoar Golden Acres, Bishopville.
