Marcia Reed paintings to be exhibited at Josephine Keir in Lewes
A Journey of Painting: Over Three Decades, an exhibit by Marcia Reed, will be showing at Josephine Keir Ltd. At Home, 102 Savannah Road in Lewes from March 14 to April 14. The artist will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 15, to meet people and talk about her work.
Reed lives in Milford and is the owner of Gallery 37- A Destination for Artful Living in the historic downtown area. Her personal painting career has spanned over 38 years. This selective retrospective show in Lewes will include a wide range of painterly imagery and styles from 1978-2015.
Reed was heavily influenced early on by two professional aunts who were designers and painters. This eventually led her to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in the early '70s during the explosion of expressionism art. She studied with incredible professional instructors with a real passion for personal mark making. This is evident in her own work then and now.
Reed has exhibited her canvases and collages as far as Seoul, Korea, and was part of the Cultural Arts International Exhibit for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Over the years, her work has been represented in galleries in the U.S. Virgin Islands and across the country. In the '90s she had solo shows at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Ariz., Mystic Art Center in Connecticut, Springfield Museum of Fine Art, Massachusetts, and last year a collage landscape was juried into the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover for the Biggs Picture Competition.
Teaching painting and design at The Williston Northampton School in Massachusetts for 35 years and exhibiting at the American Craft Council shows in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia helped support Reed in her painting career. She has taught workshops in Sardinia, Tuscany, Cinque Terra, Lake Garda, Portugal, Istanbul and in Burgundy, France, as well as all over the Caribbean. Most recently she has taught at the Rehoboth Art League and independent workshops held at her studio in Milford.
