Philip A. Freccia Jr., retired police officer

Philip A. Freccia Jr., 58, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly at his home Friday, March 27, 2015.

Born in Wilmington to the late Anne (Kelly) and Philip A. Freccia Sr., he served as a Wilmington police officer for 30 years, retiring in 2003. Phil started as a police cadet and retired as a lieutenant. After his retirement from the police force, Phil became an insurance fraud investigator for Geico, and presently Nationwide Insurance Company. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Delaware Association of Police and Wilmington Association of Retired Police.

Phil was a loving, caring man who would do anything for his family. He loved to play golf, ride his bike, spend time with family, and occasionally go to the movies. Family meant the most to Phil, and he will be missed dearly by each and every one of us. Phil recently became a Pop-Pop to Annabelle and everyone could see how much he loved her. Annabelle, Casey and Michael were his world. We all know he will be watching over everyone and heaven has received a true angel.

Phil is survived by a daughter, Casey E. Freccia of Wilmington; a son, Michael P. Freccia of Hockessin; and a granddaughter Annabelle E. Pastore. Also surviving are his four sisters and their husbands, Kathleen Mann (Larry), Linda Lee (Preston), Phyllis Saggione (Phil) , and Suzanne Pignatelli (Samuel); and stepsister Nancy Losneck (Doris). Phil will be missed by his former wife Carlena Ford and her mother Sylvia Joseph. He leaves behind a large, loving family who will miss their rock. In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his stepmother, Lee Pagnotto Freccia; a stepsister Tomi Jo Pagnotto' and his former father-in-law, Ralph Joseph.

Family will receive friends in the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, Tuesday March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday April 1,  from 9 to 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m., in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 809 South Broom Street, Wilmington. Interment immediately following at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
