Dogfish Head BOA decision appalling

May 8, 2015

I am embarrassed for the city government of Rehoboth Beach for denying the redevelopment of Dogfish Head restaurant. As the co-owner of Penny Lane Mall and past president of Rehoboth Beach Main Street I recognize based upon both firsthand experience and national data that the key to improved quality of life and property values for our residents is to have a strong and vibrant commercial district.

Dogfish Head restaurant represents exactly that. Maybe the city forgets that the Dogfish location was a problem business over 20 years ago before Sam and Mariah took it over. That it changed hands every few years and received underage drinking violations. Furthermore the third block of Rehoboth Beach commercially was dying before Dogfish turned it around.

Lastly, our governments have a responsibility to help good businesses and families alike. I call on the Rehoboth Beach elected council members to step in and rectify this situation. Don’t make Dogfish spend more money and time with an appeal process. Reprimand the board of adjustment and pass the approval at your next meeting.
