The Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start of the season at Lewes Yacht Club. This year's event featured a toast, flag raising and the traditional cannon firing.
The club – founded as a sailing organization in 1932 – started its 83rd year. The private club, open to members, their families and guests, offers dining, swimming, sailing and use of a marina. The club also has a swim team and ailing school.
Following the opening-day event May 23, the club honored local veterans during a May 24 Memorial Day ceremony.
