Tri Sigma sorority reunion held in Rehoboth

June 20, 2015

The 118-year-old national sorority of Sigma Sigma Sigma, affectionally known as Tri Sigma, held an alumnae getaway in Rehoboth Beach June 4 to 7. Sisters from five different states stayed at The Breakers Hotel. The group enjoyed historical tours of the beach resort towns, including a tour of historical homes in Lewes.

Soggy weather didn’t dampen the spirits of these women, who share a lifelong commitment to their sisterhood. During their visit they had the opportunity to meet several collegiate Tri Sigmas living and working summer jobs in the area.

Money collected from the sale of their signature purple and white bears will be donated to the First State Alumnae Chapter’s philanthropy efforts. They are supporters of Exceptional Care for Children in Newark, the only facility in North America providing palliative care for all three stages of hospice needs for children.

Jo Ann Aldrich of Wilmington, who serves as the First State Alumnae Chapter philanthropy chair, said, “The most memorable moment was being in the first house in the First Town in the First State of Delaware during a lightning storm. Lightning struck next door, hitting a church steeple which fortunately had a lightning rod on top of the cross. It did bring out the fire trucks and created a lot of excitement. Could you imagine, if the lightning had struck us while in this 300-year-old house? It didn’t stop us from having the fun and fellowship the weekend provided. We are so grateful for the efforts of DiAnne Gatts of Lewes, who made this wonderful weekend possible.”
