YMCA participates in World's Largest Swim Lesson

June 24, 2015

Water Parks, pools, YMCAs and aquatic facilities from around the globe joined in at 10 a.m. on June 18 to try to break the Guinness World Record of teaching swimming to tens of thousands of kids at more than 900 locations for the 2015 "World's Largest Swimming Lesson." It is the sixth annual event.

According to event organizers, "The World's Largest Swimming Lesson was created to serve as a platform to help local community aquatic facilities and the many different national, regional and state wide water safety and drowning prevention organizations work together to tell this important story on a local and national level."

The WLSL was created by the World Waterpark Association in 2010 as a platform to communicate the fundamental importance of teaching children to swim. More than forty-five different aquatics and safety organizations and publications support Team WLSL in their mission to help prevent childhood drowning.

The Sussex Family YMCA offers swim lessons year round in their indoor six lane competitive length pool. For information contact Lydia Schmierer at 302-296-9622, Ext. 116.
