Milton to host new fishing tournament
A new fishing tournament is coming to Milton this summer, providing local families with a day of free fishing activities at Milton Memorial Park Saturday, July 11.
The new tournament, hosted by Techno Goober, replaces the Lower Sussex Bass Masters youth fishing tournament that was held in Milton for nearly 20 years.
This year's inaugural event, “Andy & Opie Parents Fishing with Kids Fishing Tournament,” was organized after the Bass Masters' tournament was cancelled.
Registration for the tournament begins at 8 a.m., followed by fishing from 9 to 11 a.m. The event will be divided into three age groups: 5 years old and younger, 6 to 12 and 13 to 17. Bait will be provided, but participants need to bring their own fishing rods and tackle.
Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each age group for the longest fish caught. The first 275 registered children will be eligible for a free fishing rod or tackle box.
Free hot dogs and water will be provided by Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant, and there will be raffle prizes for parents. Any leftover prizes will be donated to the Good Ole Boys Foundation to be redistributed during the Christmas season, and all money raised through the raffles will be donated to a local nonprofit.
Sponsors of the event include Tyndall Construction, Jeanine O'Donnell State Farm, Midway Fitness, Hudson Management, Lewes Counseling, Meineke of Lewes, Mayor Marion Jones, Irish Eyes, Rogers Signs, Lessard Builders, Clean Delaware, Milton Historical Society, Coastal Concerts, Comcast Spotlight, Delaware Surf Fishing, Diamond State Tackle, Functional Chiropractic, Milton Chamber of Commerce, Bryton Homes, First Class HVAC, John Collier, Baker Petroleum, Matt Graviet, Michael Clark, Prekup Landscaping & Services, Shamrock Par 3, Doggies at the Beach, Delaware Molbile Surf-FIshermen, Atlantic Millwork, Good Ole Boys Foundation, Town of Milton, Emerald Law & Landscaping, First State Fabrication, Frank Payton and Dan's Tackle Box and Purpose Energy.
