Elva Christine Miller Scott-Boaz, creative woman

July 6, 2015

Elva Christine Miller Scott-Boaz was born Nov. 16, 1932, in her homeland of the great state of Pennsylvania (born in Erie; raised in Central City/Bedford County). Following a long illness, Christine passed away peacefully with her eldest son at her side Thursday, July 2, 2015, (age 83-and-a-half) at Harrison House in Georgetown.

Christine was a woman of faith; she was highly creative and a proud Scorpio, who represented her sign well. Above all, she was a wonderful and loving mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Christine was a published author, artist, former church organist and choir director, creative writing instructor (PG Community College in Maryland and the Shepard’s Center in Fairfax, Va.), and a retiree from the world’s largest and best credit union, Navy Federal Credit Union. She graduated from Shade High School (class of 1950, Cairnbrook, Pa.) and attended Highlands University in New Mexico. Her spiritual journey and faith blossomed though Camp Christian (Mill Run, Pa.), The Insight Seminars Community, her “Walk to Emmaus,” Suitland Christian Church, Wellspring UCC, and her dear friend and prayer partner, Dorothea M. Hall of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Her writings and poetry appeared in many publications worldwide. Christine’s book, “Vignettes of Small Glories” is an inspirational journey of her life, and one of her proudest accomplishments. The book is in select libraries across the country, and available through Amazon. Christine was instrumental in starting a community theatre company in District Heights, Md., and was the editor for the county publication, The Bulletin Newspaper, as well as a columnist for the paper (“Jetting Around With Jan,” using her pen name, Jan Miller). As an artist, she won first place at the National Museum of Art for one of her abstract paintings.

She was in the court of several pageants, and once crowned queen at the famous Ship Hotel (Route 30/Lincoln Highway/Bedford County, Pa.). Following the tragic burning of the ship, she wrote articles dedicated to this landmark that appeared in papers and books. Christine was actively involved in communities and churches throughout her life. She had the heart of a romantic, loved music, comedies, suspense films, the theatre, CNN, and always had a cat or two. Christine was known as a truly sweet, passionate, gifted and giving woman who always believed that “Love is the Answer.”

Christine was preceded in death by her mother, Elva Miller (who died giving birth to Christine); her father, Robert “Daddy Bob” Miller; her brother, James L. Miller; the grandparents who raised her, James and Jennie Miller of Central City, Pa.; and loving in-laws, Gladie and Walter Scott (Prince Frederick, Md.). In addition, her special “70’s Sisters,” Barbara Carr-Dubuc and Patricia Patterson Saunders; her “Beloved Doc,” the true love she discovered late in life; and wonderful cat companions who provided comfort and joy throughout the years.

Christine is survived by her eldest son, Jeffrey Robert Scott and son-in-law Jimmy Judd of Harbeson, Clifton Walter Scott and daughter-in-law Dawn Scott of Tall Timbers, Md., and her “70’s son,” Robert L. Lane of Huntsville, Ala. (Mom: we miss you so much, already.)

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leah Leech-Summerville and husband Thomas, Rusty Scott and wife Stacy, Robby Scott, Christopher Scott and wife Savannah, along with her great-grandchildren Levi, Toby, Jasmine, Thomas Jr., Cameron and Shiloh. Christine is also survived by her Aunty Evelyn Eppley of Tuscon Ariz.; former husbands Russell B. Scott, PhD and wife Frances, and Curtis Boaz (along with the Boaz stepchildren, Lisa, Valerie and Kenny); members of the Miller, Judd, Landis, Goeller, Kramer and Carr families; the NFCU Headquarters family (Vienna, Va.), WPBC Church Family (Reston, Va.), many special friends in the DC metro and Sussex County areas, classmates, students, coworkers, and most recently, by the very special family at The Harrison House of Georgetown, (Brenda Scarborough, Patricia “Angel” Long, Amy Hodges, David Kelly, Michelle Walls, Kristie Lavender, Karen Mann, Jessica Simmons, Ronee Rodriguez, Carl Dry, Rachel Jones, Cathy Hamilton, Ida Mae, Michelle Mason, Amy Swain, Heather Smoot, Heather Marvel, Keshauna Ford, Teresa Anderson, Heather Smoot, Anne Funds, Eileen Hynes, other staff members from the nursing, cleaning, activities, reception, and laundry teams, John King and the maintenance crew, Bonnie Dempsey (formerly director of activities) and Brad Huffman (now of Atlantic Shores).

Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, officiated by the Rev. Pat Milas, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a local no-kill animal rescue group or shelter.
