Savannah Animal Hospital is leading the charge with a $20,000 Top Dog matching donation to the Lewes Unleashed Association to help build the new greater Lewes-area dog park. Savannah Animal Hospital’s generosity helps make the construction an even closer reality as momentum builds in donor contributions.
Until the $20,000 limit is reached, any tax-deductible donations made to the nonprofit Lewes Unleashed Association will be matched by Savannah Animal Hospital, effectively doubling any donation. The dogs of the greater Lewes area are grateful indeed to their new big dog sponsor.
The 4.6-acre site off New Road in the newly named Great Marsh Park is cleared, and work is being planned on the paved entrance to the dog park using donated pavers from CleanCut Interlocking Pavers.
Lewes Unleashed is a nonprofit organization of dog-loving people who see the need for a dog park in Lewes. The organization's activities center on educating residents and gaining support, working with the city, raising funding, and building and operating a park for dogs and the community.
A dog park is a contained area where dogs are allowed off-leash with their owners so they may interact with other dogs and dog owners. Dog parks help dogs become friendly and social, reducing aggression and promoting good health. Nationally, dog parks are one of the most used areas among public spaces. Dog parks also promote a sense of community among dog owners and other dog park users.
The total construction cost of the dog park is $150,000, and to date it is being built totally with community donations. To donate, go to www.lewesunleashed.org.
