William E. McHugh, computer expert
William Edmond McHugh, 86, died Thursday, July 16, 2015, in Willistown, Pa. He lived in Rehoboth Beach from 1998 until August 2014. Prior to living in Rehoboth, he lived and raised his family in Basking Ridge, N.J.
He was born in New York City and grew up in Washington Heights. He graduated from St. Peter’s College in New Jersey in 1951 and was commissioned an ensign in the Navy, where he served until 1955. After leaving the Navy, he worked in the computer field for a number of companies, including Perkin Elmer, GE, Concurrent Computer and Remington Rand. He was an avid golfer, loved to read and built model trains.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Matilda “Tillie” McHugh; his sister, Joan Scandling of Fort Belvior, Va.; his four daughters, Noreen Kelly and husband Thomas of Basking Ridge, Moira McHugh and husband Val Pryschchenko of Berwyn, Pa., Alicia Giacchino and her husband Chris of Bridgewater, N.J., and Anne Marie Engel and her husband Dave of Richmond, Va.; and a son, William McHugh Jr. of Basking Ridge. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Caitlin, TJ and Kevin Kelly, Katya Pryshchenko, Christina and Nicole Giacchino, Alexa, Mackenzie and William Engel and Mia McHugh.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to AIM Academy 1200 River Road Conshohocken, Pa. 19428.
