New Wawa opens on Route 24
A new Wawa opened with fanfare and discounts in early August on Route 24 near Oak Orchard.
The community came out for festivities including a Hoagies for Heroes sub-building competition that pitted members of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company against officers from Delaware State Police Troop 7 in a competition of the Bravest vs. the Finest to win $1,000 for their favorite charity.
The fire company came out on top to win $1,000 for Indian River charities and those who attended were also treated to prizes when they signed up with Wawa's new phone application and coupon rewards program, Wawa Rewards.
The new location is one of the first to use a new store plan prototype and Oak Orchard Wawa General Manager Cheryl McAvoy will be in charge of nearly 45 associates at the store, which is the 21st new Wawa to open this year.
"We are your friends and neighbors," McAvoy said before cutting the ribbon and launching the competitions.
Open 24-hours, daily, the newest Wawa location has fresh made foods, convenience items, gas pumps and diesel available.
