True Blue Jazz Series hosts special event
September 30, 2015

Aspiring musicians from Cape Henlopen High School will let their creative juices flow as they appear Saturday, Oct. 17 at a free concert from noon to 3 p.m. at the Rehoboth Bandstand.

The event is hosted by the 2015 True Blue Jazz Series.

“Our True Blue Mission is preservation through performance,” said True Blue promoter Eddie Sherman. “And nothing puts that more into sharp focus than when True Blue Jazz hosts our annual free concert on the Bandstand in Rehoboth featuring our community's own jazz student musicians. This is where a lifetime of making music starts.”

Appearing on the Rehoboth Bandstand for True Blue Jazz is the Cape Henlopen High School Jazz Combo led by Cape Instrumental Music Director Chris Burkhart.

“The Cape Jazz Combo is a fantastic group of young musicians,” said Burkhart. “They are impressive, entertaining, and do justice to the great American art form of Jazz.”

The Rehoboth Concert Band will also perform during the concert.

“There are many young people and young musicians who've never heard our great American jazz,” said Conductor Sharon Still, “and they've never heard of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry James, Benny Goodman and many others, but when they do hear it. This music sets them on fire.”

Rehoboth Concert Band selections will be a romp through the catalogue of The Jazz Masters – from Glenn Miller to Harry James, Benny Goodman to a tribute to Louis Armstrong, Ellington, Basie and more.

Closing act of this free concert from True Blue Jazz will feature trumpet wonder Geoff Gallante with Eddie Sherman and Peggy Raley.

MeGee Motors of Georgetown and Highway One of Dewey Beach are sponsors of this event. Don’t miss this FREE Concert on Saturday, Oct. 17 from noon to 3 p.m. on the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. True Blue Jazz is a registered 501c3 dedicated to the preservation of Straight Ahead Jazz through performance, and our Youth Jazz Initiative.
