Boy Scout Troop 1 participated in two scout camps full of activity over the summer. Older scouts and leaders attended Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in Islamorada, Fla., in June. They went snorkeling in different areas including a reef, a light beacon and a shipwreck. They went sailing off Key Largo, Fla., and did some stand-up paddleboarding. Scouts visited an island state park, went to a luau and fed some large fish called tarpon.
Scouts and leaders also attended summer camp at Henson Scout Reservation, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary. This weeklong camp required scouts to sleep in platform tents and participate in busy days full of activities including tubing, gaga ball tournaments, soccer tournaments and a Magic The Gathering card tournament. The troop had a good time at Camp Henson, and all the scouts earned merit badges and requirements toward rank advancements.
The new scouting year began with a troop picnic at Cape Henlopen State Park at the end of August. September brought the program year's first camping, held at Lums Pond State Park. An upcoming camping trip will include canoeing at Janes Island in Maryland.
Troop 1 Boy Scout meetings are held weekly in Lewes with monthly camping trips. For more information, call Scoutmaster Mike Price at 302-236-6520.
