With interest and attendance still strong enough to support participating vendors, Food Truck Friday organizers say the events will continue. The next is set for 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13. “People keep asking when the next event will be, and we are happy to oblige,” says Reber Whitner, who also co-manages The Food and Love Soup Kitchen at Epworth United Methodist Church.
Food Truck Friday raises funds for the soup kitchen and for Epworth Skate Park. “We are getting estimates on the cost of installing lights around the bowl at the skate park, and the money we raise with the food truck events is really needed,” said Susan Selph, an event organizer who is also part of Epworth Skate Project.
The theme of the Nov. 13 event is Small Plate Night. Along with their regular menus, some vendors will offer smaller portions at a lower cost. The idea is that patrons can sample food from more than one vendor without overeating or overspending. Live music will be provided by John Inkster and friends.
The Polish Connection, which made its first appearance at Food Truck Friday in October, will be back on the slate of vendors for Nov. 13. The Polish food truck, featuring handmade kielbasa and pierogis using old family recipes, found an appreciative audience in October. “Our sole purpose is to bring wholesome Old World food to our customers,” say owners and operators Helen and Tim Houser.
New to the event Nov. 13 will be Grotto Pizza. Grotto will bring two specialty pizzas, Veggie Bianco and Prosciutto Verdi Milano, along with junior cheese and pepperoni pizzas. “We think that Grotto's will be a welcome addition,” said Whitner. “So many families attend our event, and some of the young ones aren’t quite ready for the global cuisine offered by our other vendors.”
The entire slate of vendors includes Mama Mia, Jakarta’s Indonesian Curbside Gourmet, The Sea Hogg, Rosenfeld’s Roadside Jewish Deli, Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen, Sherri’s Crab Cakes, The Polish Connection, Grotto Pizza, Hot Dogs at the Beach, The Frozen Farmer and A Latté Soul.
Food Truck Friday on Black Friday, Nov. 27, is in planning stages and will likely run for breakfast and lunch versus the usual dinner hours. “There will be a lot of people out shopping, and we hope that they will stop by for a bite to eat,” says Selph. “It could be the best part of their day.”
