November 29, 2015

The Cape Henlopen High School JROTC Raider Team competed Oct. 31 in the Annual Sussex Tech Invitational Cadet Raider Challenge against approximately 16 other teams. The Raider Challenge is a physically grueling series of individual and team events that tests each cadet’s physical fitness, stamina and teamwork.

The competition began with a physical fitness test consisting of a mile run, push-ups and sit-ups, followed by a land navigation course, a first-aid/stretcher carry course of 100 yards, a 30 foot one-rope bridge construction and crossing event, and a five kilometer forced march over broken terrain.

Cape placed first in PT, first aid, the 5K and placed first overall in the competition. Cadet Sam Nye won the individual first place award for the best male physical fitness score.

The team led by c/Maj. James Albertella and c/Sgt. Avonte Hobson included the following cadets: Josh Thompson, Jake Siranides, Atonia Panchoo, Tim Wall, Dustin Benton, Evan Ferguson, Vanessa Luis, Joel Torres, Alex Torres, Sam Nye, Esly Marin-Landa, Nick McKay, Joe Moreno, Jose Acensio, Bryan Gray, Jenna Davis and Zach Stevens.
