Cape wrestling looks to start of season

November 24, 2015

Cape wrestling coach Chris Mattioni is anxiously awaiting the start of the 2015-16 season, as the team looks to surpass last year's record of 8-4. He enters his 21st year at the helm with 10 letter winners from 2014 returning to the mat.

"We are a relatively young team, but a well-balanced one," said Mattioni. "We are good in each weight class."

Returning for the Vikings are Max Norquest, Justin Wright, Vinnie Diego, Matt Piner, Dante Jacquet, Darnell Bailey, Cory Lawson, Brock Maloomian, Joel Torres and Julian Medina.

Mattioni is looking to them to fill the vacant leadership roles played by 2015 graduates J.J. Currie, Emerison Fajardo, Nick Diego and Tray Bailey.

Assistant coaches for the 2015-16 Vikings include Shane Jensen, Will Reid, Keith Tobin, Sean Sheehan and Matt Graviet.

"We're working very hard," said Mattioni. "I'm looking forward to a good season."

The Vikings open their season Saturday, Dec. 5, at Brandywine for the Bulldog Invitational.
