Celebrate Excellent Care donation thanks Dr. Delbert Kwan

This past September I joined hundreds of people under a tent on the Beebe grounds to celebrate Beebe Healthcare’s 100th anniversary with the unveiling of a Delaware Historic Marker. A central piece of Gov. Jack Markell’s remarks was the recognition of Beebe President Jeff Fried as being a “thought leader” as Delaware hospitals innovate and adapt to the ever-changing world of delivering medical services.

One of the challenges facing community-based hospitals is attracting top doctors. Both Jeff Fried and the Beebe Health Services staff deserve well-earned praise for their efforts in attracting and retaining top doctors in multiple specialties. One of those doctors is Dr. Delbert Kwan.

Upon relocating and retiring to Lewes from Wilmington in 2010, I was concerned about finding both a general practitioner and specialists in several areas. Needing a urologist, I talked with locals and searched the internet. Dr. Delbert Kwan’s name surfaced time and time again. For private reasons, excuse the pun, I really don’t want to dig into the particulars of my maladies or treatment plans. Suffice it to say that I found all of my experiences with Dr. Kwan to be both highly professional and humane. Diagnostic and treatment conversations were clear and understandable. I was urged to contact the office with any future concerns, and my calls were always returned in a prompt manner. My actual procedures happened via same-day surgery, and the staff was always thoughtful and highly professional.

During my visits with Dr. Kwan, we discovered a mutual interest in strengthening the local schools. Strong schools provide many things to the community, and one of them is the capacity for Beebe to attract top doctors. It was so refreshing to experience a doctor in conversation beyond the straight medical dialogue and to interact with a caring and compassionate practitioner in the art of medicine. For this reason, I made a donation to Beebe Healthcare’s Celebrate Excellent Care program to thank Beebe Healthcare and Dr. Kwan.
