Milford Housing provides affordable housing solutions

December 6, 2015

Milford Housing Development Corp. recently built and sold two homes to two sisters in the City of Milford. In partnership with Delaware State Housing Authority and Capital One, MHDC constructed a duplex in the 4th Ward for sale to working families of modest means. Two sisters who began their journey with Keller Williams reached out to MHDC to see if it had a buyer for these two newly constructed Energy Star homes.

MHDC, which had just begun marketing the units, met with the sisters and a deal was made. They moved into their respective units Oct. 12. Their journey to homeownership was made possible through dedicated hard work from MHDC staff and the partnerships with DSHA, Capital One and Keller Williams. This all occurred just in time for the holidays so the sisters could enjoy being first-time homeowners for Thanksgiving.

MHDC broke ground Nov. 16 on the third and final duplex on NW 4th Street in Milford. MHDC anticipates the home will be completed in spring 2016. David Moore, president and CEO of MHDC, said, “We feel it’s a great privilege to help working families achieve homeownership, and this type of project will help someone’s dream come true who might not have thought it possible.”

Each home has three bedrooms, all appliances and approximately 1,440 square feet of living space and is built to Energy Star standards. “Quality construction and dedicated staff is one way we can help people achieve what the families thought was not possible. These homes will be affordable and energy efficient, and we hope that provides stability and success to whoever will call this place home,” said Moore.
