RAL offers The Art of Jewelry Dec. 11 at Studios on Route 9
As part of the ongoing Meet the Artist Series Friday, Dec. 11,, from 6 to 7 p.m., the Rehoboth Art League will present “The Art of Art Jewelry,” with local art jeweler Heidi Lowe. “Reflect," now on display at the Rehoboth Art League’s Art Studios on Route 9, is a unique exhibition consisting of historic female portraits from the permanent collections of the Rehoboth Art League and The Biggs Museum of American Art.
Twelve international art jewelers were each asked to respond to an assigned portrait. Each artist was free to interpret their portrait formally and conceptually. The portraits and jewelry seen together create juxtaposition between old and new, image and object and representation and reflection.
“This is such an amazing exhibition,” says Jay Pastore, exhibitions director at the art league. “The creativity in these works is remarkable. The artists really went for this challenge. They were very thoughtful in their designs.” Heidi Lowe, owner of Heidi Lowe Jewelry, located at 328 Rehoboth Ave., in Rehoboth Beach, will discuss Art Jewelry as an art medium as well as some of the works in the exhibition.
This event is free and open to the public. This exhibition is supported in part by the Delaware Division of the Arts. The Rehoboth Art League’s Art Studios are located at 12000 Old Vine Road, in Lewes, just one mile west of Route 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday; noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, and closed Mondays.
