Dancer wins Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen crown

Winner to perform April 2, 3 in Milford

The First State Academy of Dance in Milford recently announced one of its dance students, Victoria Brown-O'Brien, 16, of Magnolia, was crowned Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen 2011. The pageant was held March 13 at Cape Henlopen High School, where 12 contestants from across the state were competing for more than $8,000 in scholarships and the title. Victoria attends Caesar Rodney High School where she is a sophomore.

She performed a ballet en pointe to “La Esmeralda,” coached by her dance teachers, Michele Xiques and Val Goncharov. During her year of service, Victoria will be promoting her platform, Get Up and Dance, which encourages education and creative movement to help youth become more physically active and health conscious, and gain a more positive self image.

Victoria will perform with the Diamond Dance Company in "Peter and the Wolf and Firebird,” at 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3, at the Riverfront Theatre in Milford,.

The Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen Pageant is a part of the Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization. The not-for-profit organizations are official state preliminaries for the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant and the Miss America Pageant, respectively, and are scholarship-based programs.
