The Cape girls' swim team stroked to its 41st consecutive dual meet victory Dec. 10, with a 103-67 win over visiting Sussex Tech at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.

The Vikings set the tone early, opening with their beasty girls medley relay team of Sarah Rambo (back), Sarah Hyde (breast), Amelia Nigh-Johnson (fly) and Molly Weeks freestyle to win in 1:55.77.

“It’s nice to see those girls step up for the first race and to know they come back for the individual events,” said coach Bill Geppert. “But it’s also about depth; both teams are in the pool fighting for every position."

Hyde came back to win the 200 freestyle in 2:09.92 and 50 freestyle in 26.4.

Weeks won the 200 individual medley in 2:23.80 and 100 breaststroke in 1:18.30.

Nigh-Johnson captured the 100 butterfly in 1:02.13 and backstroke in 1:05.75.

Rambo won the 100 freestyle in 58.48.

That's four swimmers winning eight races in a meet that only scores 11.

Sussex Tech, coached by Michelle Thomas, is not a team to sleep on, with depth in the water going after some first places while knocking down the second through fourth scoring spots.

Sarah Smith of Cape captured the 500-meter freestyle in 6:52.86.

The Ravens won the 200 free relay with Rachel King, Hannah Venables, Megan Perdue and Meghan Allen in 1:52.37 and the 400 free relay with Venables, Perdue, Kelsey Fowler and Allen in 4:11.62.

The Vikings face a tough week ahead, according to coach Geppert, swimming at Caesar Rodney Dec. 15 and Stephen Decatur Dec. 17.

The Sussex Tech boys defeated Cape 92-78 by winning the last four events of the meet, which included individual wins by Antonio Monaco in the 100 backstroke and Johnathan Lee in the 100 breaststroke.

The Ravens won the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Brendan McGowan, Jacob Kimmy, Nick Vitella and Garrett Richardson (no time available) and the 400 free relay with McGowan, Justin Alloway, Monaco and Richardson in 3:57.92.

Cape won the first seven races with Josh Toback in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.70, Jack Weeks in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.66 and 100 butterfly in 57.87, Alec Hochrein in the 50 freestyle in 24.4 and 100 freestyle in 55.05, and Ryan Bixler in the 500 freestyle in 6:19.88.

The Vikings opened the meet winning the 200 medley relay with a team of Weeks, Mike Schrock, Bixler and Hochrein in 1:54.98.
