The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the official opening of the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease at the Beebe Health Campus in Rehoboth Beach with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Beebe Healthcare introduced this nationally recognized program to Sussex County this year to help people with heart disease improve their health and quality of life. Ornish, a physician, president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute in California, and a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, developed the program, which has shown positive results for more than 30 years.
Participants attend a comprehensive program consisting of 18, four-hour sessions in which an experienced staff teaches them how to prepare and follow a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet; how to exercise; how to use techniques such as yoga and meditation to help them manage their stress; and how to find ways to connect and improve methods of communication through group contact. Beebe’s program already has graduated one group with another attending. New classes are coming soon. Space is available in the January 2016 class. For more information, call 302-645-3514.
