Primeros Pasos breaks ground on new center

January 20, 2016

Primeros Pasos Early Childhood Learning Center broke ground on its new Early Learning Center, located at 20648 Savannah Road in Georgetown Jan. 6. The new 5,850-square-foot center is composed of three buildings that were donated by Polytech High School in Dover.

Primeros Pasos Early Learning Center provides high-quality education in a culturally diverse environment for all children. Primeos Pasos currently provides daycare and preschool instruction to 20 children from ages 18 months to 5 years old at its location at St. Paul’s Church in Georgetown. The new facility will enable Primers Pasos to care for 67 children from 6 weeks old to 5 years old.

Additionally, they will have room for a before- and after-school program. The program is bilingual and affordable, meeting the developmental needs of its children. Primeros Pasos’ age-appropriate curriculum emphasizes communication, social, intellectual and physical development. Eighty to 90 percent of the children are from low-income households.

The program gives these children the same opportunity to be ready to learn as their peers entering kindergarten, enabling them to be successful in the public school system.
