Margaret Simmons, Seaside Baptist member
Margaret "Peggy" Virginia Simmons, 87, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 1, 1923, in Easton, Md., daughter of the late Earl and Sarah (Jefferson) Haddaway.
She spent most of her earlier years in Orlando, Fla. and Nashville, Tenn. before moving to Lewes, where she resided for 20 years.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of Seaside Baptist Church and she enjoyed embroidery paint and western movies, especially with Burt Reynolds and John Wayne starring in them. She was known as being the "luckiest" lady when she played bingo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Roy Simmons Sr. in 2002; her daughter Carla Simmons; and her three sisters Joan Coleman, Irma Jones, and Ellen Gubeno. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her two sons: George C. Russ and wife Nancy of Harbeson, and Robert Simmons, Jr. and wife Amy of Millsboro; one daughter: Anne Gowe and her husband Edward of Tilghman Island, Md.; and five brothers, Joseph Haddaway and Billy Haddaway, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Steve Haddaway of Hurlock, Md., Robert "Pie" Haddaway of Neavitt, Md., and Dickie Haddaway of Easton, Md.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
