George A. McMahon III, an original Dewey lifeguard
George A. McMahon III of Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.
Born in Wilmington, July 12, 1935, George retired from DuPont Chestnut Run to Rehoboth.
He is survived by his children, George IV, Mark F. (Kay) and Tammy (Rich); four grandchildren, Allison, McMahon, George McMahon V, Mark R. McMahon and Kelly McMahon; two great-grandchildren; his companion, Kathy Withrow; and granddog Dailey. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat Magrogan, Peggy Weldin and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick; many cousins and long-time friends.
George was an upstanding, 54-year member of Rehoboth-by-the-Sea where he held the position on the board of directors for many years. In his youth, he was one of the first Dewey Beach lifeguards. He also enjoyed being a member of the Dewey Beach Club, and his time spent boating on the Rehoboth Bay on his Pontoon Saloon, especially clamming. In the past George was very active in the New Castle County Democratic Party.
