Lewes Police Department announces promotions

The City of Lewes announced a new round of police promotions and welcomed a new officer to the force.
Chief Tom Spell made the presentation to Lewes Mayor and City Council June 9.
Spell introduced Pfc. Siobhan Burton, who comes to Lewes from the Dover Police Department. Burton has numerous state certifications.
“She brings a wealth of police knowledge and police training,” Spell said.
Spell said the department now has 16 of 18 officer positions filled. He said they are actively hiring for the remaining two.
Spell also announced the following promotions:
• Lt. James Locklear, promoted to deputy chief
• Sgt. Tyrone Woodyard, promoted to lieutenant
• Cpl. Rick Schiazza, promoted to sergeant.
Later in the meeting, City Manager Ellen Lorraine McCabe recognized Lt. James Azato for 23 years of service to the city and Spell for nine years of service.

Bill is an avid aviation and wildlife photographer, and a big Penn State football, Eagles, Phillies and PGA Tour golf fan. Bill, his wife Jill and their rescue cat, Lucky, live in Rehoboth Beach.
