Bayhealth’s Ashley Altman, RN, cares for patients at the Bayhealth Kent Campus and has earned a DAISY Award for her compassionate care.
The DAISY Award is a “thank you” to extraordinary nurses. This program recognizes nurses who show compassion and determination through the care they provide. The DAISY Award honors the super-human work that nurses everywhere do for their patients along with their families.
The priority of any parent is the health and happiness of their child. The same can be said for the mother of Altman’s patient.
Shortly after giving birth, the first-time mom was informed that her son would be transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) unexpectedly. Understandably, this news created a sense of anxiety and sadness for the new mother and the patient’s family.
Knowing that this is every new mother’s fear, Altman made continuous efforts to reassure the family and relay every update she had. Altman became a source of support for the patient’s family, allowing the first-time mom to feel all of her emotions.
“We could tell that she really cared for our son and would check in on us even though he might've not even been her patient for the day. We felt very safe leaving him in her care and was very grateful that she was his nurse for several days of his NICU stay,” said Altman’s grateful nominator.
DAISY Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit Bayhealth.org/DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
