Events This Weekend in Delaware and Maryland

Summer rolls on this week with several outdoor festivals and events to enjoy at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, as well as in other towns and communities throughout the region.

From top-level skimboarding in Dewey Beach to a large African-American festival in Seaford, some celebrity basketball in Lewes and much more, this is a great weekend to gather up the family and head out for some fantastic local fun.

Remember we only have a few weeks left before Labor Day and the official of the 2022 summer season, so take advantage of this wonderful time of year to enjoy yourself in the great outdoors.

Let's tell you about all we have on tap for the weekend of August 12-14 at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding (August 12-14)

This year's 40th annual event will again be held on the beach at Dagsworthy Street in Dewey Beach, beginning on Friday, August 12, and running through Sunday, August 14.

Get ready for a party atmosphere this weekend, with music provided during the three days of the event by DJ Izzy Shapes, DJ Dub Sauce, SJ Sounds, DJ Woody B and a few others.

Enjoy the Beach Chill Zone, watch the premiere of "Easy Slider" by Skylar Wilson on Friday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m., and take part in the official afterparty of the event on Sunday from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., at Nalu in Dewey Beach.

Medals and prizes will be given to the top four competitors in all amateur divisions of the event, with cash prizes for the top six male finishers and top four female finishers in the professional divisions.

Summer Mini Blues Festival (August 13)

Nassau Valley Vineyards near Lewes will be holding this special August event, which will feature the company's award-winning wines, as well as local craft beers, cocktails, food vendors and more.

Bands scheduled to take part in the event include the Williams Brothers, the Jimmy Pritchard Band, the Uppity Blues Women and Gaye Adegbalola.

Proceeds from both shows will benefit True Blue Jazz youth music programs.

AFRAM Festival (August 13)

The African-American (AFRAM) Festival is celebrating its 25th year in 2022 at a new location, the Ross Station Event Center in Seaford.

One of the largest cultural events in the region, this year's AFRAM Festival will include comedy acts, reggae music, cornhole and a wide selection of entertainment choices.

There will also be a wellness walk at 8 a.m., an auto show and the Little Miss AFRAM pageant at 10 a.m., the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., and entertainment beginning with the Universal Dance and Drum Ensemble at 1 p.m., and continuing through "R and B - Best Kept Soul" at 6 p.m.

The Seaford Historical Society will be offering tours of the Ross Mansion during the festival, which organizers promise to be "the best one yet."

The 2022 AFRAM Festival is scheduled for this Saturday, August 13, beginning at 9 a.m. The Ross Station Event Center is located at 585 North Market Street in Seaford.
