Let's go boating!
Cape May-Lewes Ferry officials and owners of Freedom Boat Club Delaware recently announced that Freedom Boat Club will operate at the finger pier docks at the Lewes Ferry Terminal. Freedom Boat Club members can enjoy easy access to the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean from the club’s newest Delaware location. The Lewes Terminal offers many services including restaurant and gift shop, restrooms, and plenty of parking. Pleasure boats will be docked at the Lewes terminal finger pier beginning May 1 and continuing through the end of September.
"Freedom Boat Club Delaware is excited to partner with the ferry to bring another great boating experience to our members," said Tom Rosella, president and co-owner of Freedom Boat Club Delaware. "The Lewes Ferry Terminal is centrally located with tons of free parking. With an excellent dockside restaurant, clean restrooms, and a gift shop for those last-minute items, our members have everything that the boater would need for a great experience on and off the water.”
“We are always looking to promote our terminals as community hubs – for concerts, community events and family-oriented activities,” said Heath Gehrke, director of Ferry Operations. “Freedom Boat Club is the oldest and largest boat club in the nation, and an excellent fit on our waterfront. With easy docking and our terminal amenities, our finger pier should be a prime launching point for club members this summer.”
Freedom Boat Club Delaware offers a hassle-free boating experience to its membership without the cleaning, maintenance, repairs, hauling, winterization, storage, and other challenges that come with owning a boat. Members are trained by a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain and then given access to an online reservation system where they can choose a date, boat type, and time period to be out on the water.
Freedom Boat Club staff will have the member’s boat cleaned and ready to go on the reserved date and will be available to assist with gear and help the boating party board the vessel safely. After a brief check-out process, the member is off and having fun, cruising, tubing, fishing or watching dolphins. Upon return, Freedom Boat Club staff will be there to help the member dock and tie up the boat, help offload gear and assist all guests safely off the boat. A brief check-in process completes the day on the water. No cleaning or maintenance required.
“You'll be off enjoying a snack and a beverage at On the Rocks dockside grill instead of hauling and cleaning a boat,” Rosella said.
