  1. How long have you been living in the area?

“I moved here in 2014, so it will be 8 years in September 2022!”

  1. What is your favorite thing about living at the beach?

“The people, the community, and the access we have to the outdoors.  I surf, and love being able to take advantage of the ocean all year, but this community is amazing and it’s what brings a huge smile to my face every day!”

  1. What is your favorite thing about your business/profession?

“I am currently recovering from a serious and permanent traumatic brain injury due to a car accident on 9/29/20, so due to that, I lost my full time job which was a Senior Wellness Consultant for Virgin Pulse.  I basically was in health tech and ran wellness programs from home before working from home was a thing.  Locally, I am a surf instructor, yoga teacher, astrologer and personal trainer. My favorite part of all of these jobs are the people I have met and what I have learned along the way.  Everyone has a story, sometimes it just takes a kind smile and conversation for someone to open up and have fun.

This past year and a half though, my full time job has been getting better + healing, so I was focused on that through various methodologies including HBOT at Delaware Hyperbariacs, Vestibular PT with Aquarcare, Ocular PT at Sussex Eye Center, Chiropractor at Lotus Chiro, Concussion and Neurological Specialists, Imaging and Doctors from the  Amen Clinic in VA, Pilates, The Body Shop workouts with Adam that were coordinated with my Vestibular therapist so I would stay safe, healthy diet and exercise, PT with the Wellness Wahini, Swimming at the YMCA, Yoga with Dimitra Yoga, Urban Float, Brian Love (Neuropathy), Right Balance Pilates, outdoor walks, and meditation.  It has been a wild year and a half!”

  1. Why did you incorporate fitness into your life?

“To live a better life and to feel healthy.  I have always been active.  I played sports growing up, swam competitively and that lead to D-I lacrosse with Cornell University, yoga, running, surfing, tennis, Zumba, and various other activities.  I do love to feel healthy and well, but mostly I do it because I find it fun and any exercise, from a long walk to a HIIT class or a Yin yoga class ALWAYS makes me feel better.  I have my limitations these days, but slowly and steadily getting back to my favorite activities.”

  1. When did you start working out at the Body Shop?

“We usually came to the Body Shop when I was down on vacation with my family prior to me moving here and I can’t even tell you when that was….it’s been a long time!  But, when I moved here in the fall of 2014, I became a regular.  I love the intimacy of the gym, the people I have been able to get to know, and the opportunity to work out with Adam.”

  1. Favorite health tip to share:

“Pick what you love to do, then do it!  It’s ok if you love to walk and your friends love to run, if you love it, you’ll do it.  If not, you really won’t!  I also know that sleep is SUPER important, so I try to get healthy sleep and have an evening and morning routine of mindfulness so I can be grateful for each day I have.”

  1. Quote:

“This place is like a second home!  Everyone says hello to you and is so incredibly positive

when you come to the gym, you feel 1000x better just by showing up.  It has given me a sense of “normalcy” as

I have navigated a very difficult 1.5 years.  Working out with Adam, even though we had to modify some things,

made me feel like a normal human again and not a traumatic brain injury patient. I see a lot of doctors who

evaluate my progress on the daily, weekly, and monthly visits.  The Body Shop is where I can come to just be

Alyson, working out as Alyson, and have the support to take my new “normal” as it comes.  Adam always says,

“you’ll feel better” if you work out or after I say “I might do the elliptical” and he is always right!

Adam and the team there has been the best support as I have slowly and steadily made my way back to me.

I am forever grateful for them!”
