Several Great Events Featured This First Weekend of May in Delaware, Maryland and Southeastern Pennsylvania

April 28, 2021

Welcome to the first weekend of May everyone! We're a few days closer to Memorial Day Weekend 2021 and the start of the traditional summer season in and around the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.

The Delaware and Maryland beaches are starting to pick up in activity, along with excitement for a warm weather season that will hopefully bring about the easing of COVID-19 related restrictions and mandates.

We're starting to see that in many areas already as the nation's vaccine rollout continues in earnest. So optimism abounds as we inch closer to Memorial Day Weekend!

We have several great local events to tell you about for these early days of May, at the beaches, in northern Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania and in Maryland's capital city of Annapolis.

So keep reading and make plans for a fantastic weekend coming up wherever you happen to call home!

Here are the Oldfather Group's top choices for great local events and festivals for the first weekend of May. Enjoy!

Lewes British Motorcar Show (May 1)

This is the 25th anniversary of the British Motorcar Show in historic Lewes, with this year's event culminating in a "Winner's Circle Parade" in downtown Lewes.

This always fun event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, May 1, in the parking lot of the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal on Cape Henlopen Drive in Lewes.

As always, it's sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the British Car Club of Delaware and will feature a host of beautiful British vehicles.

Keep in mind that all spectators to this year's show must follow social distancing and mask use requirements. But that shouldn't stop anyone from having a great time!

Food and beverages will be available from Grain on the Rocks.

The first will be at the vineyards on Thursday, April 29, and will feature Benny Benack III performing from 7 until 8:30 p.m. That's followed the following evening by a virtual concert with Benack and Friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

Both are available to stream live and for free. Learn more about the True Blue Jazz Festival at www.truebluejazz.org, or click here for the livestream on Friday, April 30.
