Things to Do This Weekend in Delaware and Maryland

All signs point to a break in the weather this weekend, perfect timing for some of May's biggest events in both Delaware and Maryland.  This first weekend of May is again highlighted by the annual Springfest in beautiful Ocean City, which features four fun-filled days in Maryland's most popular coastal resort.

But that's just the beginning during a weekend where we have more than a dozen great events to tell you about. Keep reading for the Oldfather Group's top-rated selections during the extended weekend of May 5-7 at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Ocean City Springfest (May 4-7)

One of the largest annual events in Ocean City, this year's Springfest is scheduled to run from Thursday, May 4, through Sunday, May 7. This is the 32nd year for this featured event of the spring, with four days of live entertainment, unique vendors, delicious local food choices and more planned for the Inlet Parking Lot.

Admission is again free with scheduled hours running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Sunday. Headlining entertainment, which does involve a fee/ticket price, includes a Motown Tribute on Thursday, Collective Soul on Friday, and Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives on Saturday.

Dover Days Festival and Parade (May 6)

This year's Dover Days festival takes place on Saturday, May 6, at First State Heritage Park on MLK Boulevard in downtown Dover. This annual event showcases the rich history and heritage of Delaware and features highlights that include a parade, traditional Maypole dancing, hot air balloon rides, more than 100 local and regional vendors, a colonial artisans' village, and much more.

If you want to get in on this year's fun early, stop by Legislative Mall on Friday night for a kick-off event and evening fireworks. Dover Days 2023 runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning with the parade on Loockerman Street.

Lewes British Motorcar Show (May 6)

Co-sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the British Car Club of Delaware, this annual event takes place at the Lewes Ferry Terminal on Cape Henlopen Drive and features a nice selection of British automobiles. Scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this 27th annual event has been a local favorite for years and generally draws a nice crowd to the "First Town in the First State."

Admission to the show is $5 for adults, with children 12 and under admitted for free.
