‘EO’ and ‘Corsage’ films to open Jan. 6
Opening Friday, Jan. 6, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “EO” and “Corsage.”
“EO” is a tender drama about an animal who sees the world as a mysterious place. A gray donkey with melancholic eyes and a curious spirit, EO begins his life as a circus performer before escaping on a trek across the Polish and Italian countryside in a journey marked by absurdity and warmth in equal measure. He witnesses firsthand good and bad people, and the experiences of joy and pain, while exploring a vision of modern Europe. Legendary filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski directs one of his most free and visually inventive films yet, placing the viewer directly in the heart and mind of the four-legged protagonist.
“Corsage” is a seditious biopic drama about a woman thrown into turmoil as she anticipates being considered an old woman by 19th century standards. It’s a fictional account of one year in the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Vicky Krieps), who was idolized for her beauty and renowned for inspiring fashion trends. But in 1877, “Sissi” celebrates her 40th birthday and must fight to maintain her public image by lacing her corset tighter and tighter. While Elizabeth's role has been reduced, against her wishes, to purely performative, her hunger for knowledge and zest for life make her more and more restless in Vienna. Elisabeth travels to England and Bavaria, visiting former lovers and old friends, seeking the excitement and purpose of her youth. With a future of strictly ceremonial duties laid out in front of her, Elisabeth rebels against the hyperbolized image of herself and comes up with a plan to protect her legacy.
Film admission is $9 for members and $11.50 for general audiences and $5 for students.
