‘Ice Ice Bladey’ bulldozes competition in state plow-naming contest

Rehoboth Elementary fourth-grader Sophie Rowley bulldozed her way to a win in Delaware Department of Transportation’s third annual plow-naming contest with the submission “Ice Ice Bladey.”

Sophie was named the Sussex County winner of the contest, said Deputy Director Shante Hastings in a visit to the school Jan. 30, noting that more than 200 entries were submitted from schools across the state.

Hastings presented Sophie with a plush Wally the WorkZone mascot and a large magnet imprinted with the name “Ice Ice Bladey” that Sophie slapped on the side of the truck with a smile.

DelDOT has more than 400 pieces of snow removal equipment statewide, and is responsible for treating and plowing almost 14,000 lane miles of roadway. Go to the DelDOT Snow FAQ webpage for details.
