AAUW Coastal Georgetown to meet Sept. 19
AAUW Coastal Georgetown Branch will host broadcasting pioneer and longtime NPR host Liane Hansen at its meeting set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, at The Lodge at Historic Lewes.
Hansen had her first experience in public broadcasting in 1976, when she became a production assistant and substitute host for then-local Philadelphia public radio show, "Fresh Air." In 1979, she joined NPR as a production assistant for "All Things Considered" and later hosted "Weekend All Things Considered" and "Performance Today." Hansen also guest-hosted "Fresh Air" after that program entered national syndication through NPR. In November 1989, Hansen joined "Weekend Edition Sunday." She retired in 2011 and moved to Bethany Beach, where she helped launch Delaware's first and only full-fledged public radio station, WDDE, and serves on its governing board. She is also a frequent performer with Clear Space Theatre.
Hansen will be interviewed by Bill Newcott, an award-winning travel writer and film critic for the Saturday Evening Post, who lives near Lewes.
